Lesson 1: “You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”

You’ll have to go to the actual post to read the rest!

blogrolling

December15

A great post from Sue Waters led me to a nifty solution for my blogroll – using Google Reader’s builtin blogroll gadget.

Thanks Sue

class blogging

i’ve started a class blog – taking it slowly with a couple of my girls writing weekly summaries of what we’ve been doing in class … decided that slow and steady is a good way to go …

further to life on the edge

March31

i’d like to add marsedit to the pot … sometimes you just need to blog without the hassle of loading your browser … perhaps mars edit will be the ultimate tool?

whether or not i’ll be able to upload pictures etc is another matter …

Coastlands by night

the bonus about mars edit is that i can connect to flickr to insert any picture i have there

technorati tags may be a little more difficult … at the moment i use a form from the landmark project to create them – which means running the browser!

will have to think about how i can get around it …

new stuff – life on the edge

March30

ok – well – i’ve been playing with some new STUFF over the last few days/weeks …

Twitter – kinda like a giant online global conversation

Flock – new kind of browser that integrates all sorts of social networking stuff – blogging from within flock is quite seamless – especially if you have multiple blogs

Diigo – bookmarking on steroids – i previously have used del.icio.us for bookmarking

Cellfone – heh – i got a new cellphone (Motorola RAZR V3X) and have been playing with camera and video functions – and mobile posting of pictures to Flickr & Photobucket and mobile posting of videos to Youtube

sharing the information

March9

i guess one of the things about learning new stuff is the importance of passing it on … i was informed on thursday that my name had been tossed in the bucket to take a workshop during our skills week – on blogs and wikis … so … over the next week if you keep an eye on my wiki – https://dragonsinger.wikispaces.com/ you’ll probably see me putting my presentation together – all i know is about an hour and up to 20 teachers …

I am a:

  • teacher
  • mother
  • musician
  • sci-fi fanatic
  • computer geek
  • geocacher
  • blogger
  • wannabe photog

I have a secret passion – well – maybe not so secret – teaching is not about feeding information into kids brains – it’s about creating a place where kids are inspired, enthused, excited about discovery and learning – so my goal as a teacher is to leave my kids wanting more and having the skills to find out more.

This year I’ve moved up a year level and am enjoying the more sophisticated conversations and explorations that we are having in the classroom. It’s exciting to see kids motivated because our classroom is using 21st Century tools for their everyday teaching and learning.

This blog is really for my reflective practise – about things that have worked (or not worked) in my classroom and to share these with others in my PLN.

I should also mention that I’m a Kiwi living in the North Island of New Zealand (just north of Wellington).
